The original tile features cranes flying over stylized waves, inspired by Japanese design elements. The motif, representing longevity, is rendered in white on a deep blue background. Christopher Dresser, a prominent figure in design, often looked to Japanese art for inspiration. While Dresser's exact relationship with Minton remains unclear, many of his designs were produced by the factory.
