Embroidered front translation: "Gallery and Garment" In this design, three distinct illustrations, separately titled "Bamboo," are showcased together, originally derived from hanging scrolls of polychrome woodblock prints. Created by Kuang Xü in 1922, these prints are based on the works of three artists displayed from right to left on the apparel: Ge Jinsi (Chinese, Yuan dynasty), Song Jiang (Chinese, Qing dynasty), and Duo Yenshi (Chinese, Qing dynasty).
In Chinese traditional culture, bamboo symbolizes many virtues and values including (but not limited to) resilience, flexibility, and purity, often featured in paintings as a representation of moral strength and integrity. It was a popular subject of depiction.
